Rogers Alerts serves up geo-fenced digital offers

Rogers Wireless has teamed up with location based solutions provider Placecast to launch Rogers Alerts. The digital couponing service is delivered via ShopAlerts, Placecast’s platform which, according to the company, has been successfully employed in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Rogers wireless subscribers can register online here, create a content preference profile, and subsequently receive offers targeted to their personal shopping and retail preferences. As an incentive to subscribe to the service, Rogers is offering wireless customers who text (SMS) RALERTS to 5050, a discount of CAD$5.00 off their next wireless bill.

Participating retailers will use geo-fencing technology to detect when a mobile device on the Rogers wireless network is within proximity to a participating retailer, triggering offers delivered by SMS. Among the initial set of retailers taking part in Rogers Alerts are national retailers Sears Canada, Future Shop, Pizza Hut Canada, A&W, Second Cup and Rogers Wireless.
