As reported in GeekWire, Uber has recently partnered with Saris, a Wisconsin-based bicycle rack company, to develop a new feature: UberPEDAL. Set to release on Friday, October 10th in Seattle, users will be able to hail an UberX vehicle equipped with a Saris bike rack (Made in USA and has a lifetime warranty) which can store two bicycles for an additional $5 dollar surcharge (Rates for UberPEDAL will be equal to UberX rates).
Users who wish to hail an UberPEDAL vehicle will select the “Promotions” tab using the Uber mobile app and enter the promotion code “PEDAL”. This will enable users to view available UberX cars equipped with a bike rack. New Uber users can enter the promo code “SEABIKES” for $20 off their first ride.
The release of UberPEDAL is set three days before Seattle’s own bike-share program Pronto debuts. Uber launched in 2009 and is currently in over 200 cities worldwide.
