You might wonder what convenience stores are good for besides grabbing a quick drink at the fountain or buying some cigarettes. Well, you might be surprised that convenience stores are doing a lot to shatter traditional stereotypes.

Findings from a new survey just released at the 2016 NACS Show report that convenience stores donate almost $1 billion a year to charities. The survey reported that 64% of retail owners responding said they support 5 or more charities in their neighborhood communities.

Cause marketing is getting a lot of attention lately and convenience stores might surprise some consumers with their high level of community support. According to the report, 97% of retailers donated to local and national nonprofit organizations.

Reinvesting profits to support local communities can strongly influence where consumers shop. The convenience retail industry is evolving in many ways, and building customer relationships through cause marketing is a smart way to add brand sparkle in this highly competitive industry.
